About
Richard studied painting at Medway College of Art Rochester, Hornsey College of Art, and Central St. Martin’s College of Art & Design.
Thereafter, he worked from a small studio in Marylebone and taught at the local Grammar School. He lectured at the Tanglewood Arts Centre in Maine, returning to teach at various further and higher educational institutions.
He has travelled extensively and uses the experience of different situations in his work. In 1980, he moved to his studio in Kent and currently his work represents a figurative aesthetic approach developed from a varied technique and experience. Subject matter proves diverse, demonstrating an insight into unusual places of interest.
Richard’s images are “double page spreads” printed directly from his sketch books. These are in turn stretched and embellished producing a spontaneous approach to multi-media.
Colour can be integrated using this approach, much the same as hand tinting a black & white etching. This leaves the original intact, promoting authentic hand worked prints.
Richard’s work can be found in collections in The United States, Australia, Spain, Ireland, and The United Kingdom.
